Marchesa Bridal Fall 2017

Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig looked to Eos, the Greek goddess of the dawn, as the muse for their ethereal bridal lineup this season. “We were thinking about goddesses,” Chapman said, noting that the recent spring Marchesa ready-to-wear lineup included several sheer, sensual sheath gowns that riffed on Grecian styles. “And really, that’s our ambition: to make a bride feel like a goddess. It was perfect synergy.” In Greek mythology, Eos was often described as “rosy-fingered.” On that note, Marchesa’s fall brides wore rose vines wrapped around their wrists with dangling floral earrings. Chapman and Craig also embellished their off-the-shoulder and fit-and-flare silhouettes with cascading 3-D petal appliqués and floral embroideries, a few styles finished with blush and nude Chantilly lace underlays for a hint of color. Elsewhere, a few gowns recalled lingerie with lace bustiers, corsetry and side-illusion panels. “A lot of girls want to be in something lighter and sexier now, but you’ll always have those who are more traditional, too,” Chapman said of the lineup’s drop-waist ballgowns and voluminous circle skirts trimmed with horse hair. “It’s about answering to all of those different girls out there.”
